UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) in collaboration with The National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA), The Academy of Science Malaysia (ASM), the University Kebangsaan Malaysia’s Southeast Asia Disaster Prevention Research Initiative (SEADPRI-UKM) and the IRDR International Centers of Excellence (ICoEs) organized ”Virtual 2020 Asia Pacific Science and Technology Conference for Disaster Risk Reduction (APSTCDRR)” on 15th October, 2020.
Er. Suraj Gautam, Executive Director of IHRR as well as Co-Lead at U-inspire Nepal presented his paper in “Innovation in Vulnerability and Capacity Assessment; Adopting a Digital Participatory Approach” on the occasion of International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction. His presentation enlightened on VCA in the context of Nepal, followed by steps involved, limitations, advantages and ways to move forward. VCA mapping tools allow real time digitalization of spatial datasets through participatory interactions. It is a paradigm shift in context of Nepal as Nepal is taking steps towards digital mapping.
