Published Date: 05 Jun, 2021

In line with the 2021 World Environment Day (WED) theme “Ecosystem Restoration”, the consortium of NAXA and the Institute of Himalayan Risk Reduction (IHRR) is going to officially launch an initiative titled “Identification, Mapping, and Promotion of Blue and Green Infrastructure for Sustainable Urban Ecosystem”.
The kickoff day this Saturday (June 5) consists of three activity:
1. Official launch of the Initiative
2. Keynote talk from thematic experts and
3. An open data Mapathon engaging volunteer mappers to identify and map BGI in two urban cities (Kathmandu and Hetauda)

The consortium is partnering with the Geomatic Engineering Society at Kathmandu University to organize the Mapathon activity.

We cordially invite enthusiastic youth and professionals across the country to join hands on these initiatives on identifying and mapping BGI in the core urban areas. The datasets gathered can support restoration efforts and urban planning by the concerned authorities of the urban centers. All the datasets will be made public through both the open data portal and the OpenStreetMaps.

Let's celebrate this year’s World Environment Day together with a cause. Your small efforts and contribution can make a big impact.
World Environment Day (WED) is the United Nations-led global event celebrated annually on 5 June. WED has been a global platform to thousands of communities worldwide in raising awareness on pressing environmental issues and advocating actions for a cleaner and safer environment globally.
