IHRR is starting its in-house research on developing a community-based landslide early warning system. A landslide early warning system (LEWS) is a system in which the community gets a warning before the occurrence of a landslide and gets the chance to save a large number of casualties and losses. We'd also like to congratulate to our advisor Dr. Basanta Raj Adhikari for successfully developing a community-based landslide early warning system. A successful Community-Based Landslide Early Warning System has saved 495 people from 117 households in the Nepal Himalaya, according to a new study in JMS by Thapa and Adhikari (2019).
We believe participatory LEWS will be a very effective and important soft-measure solution considering the budget constraints. The development of LEWS will definitely be an eye-opener to act for the intervention in the days to come !!!!
