Sendai framework aims to achieve the substantial reduction of disaster risk and losses in lives, livelihoods and health and in the economic, physical, social, cultural and environmental assets of persons, businesses, communities and countries.
Institute for Himalayan Risk Reduction (IHRR) has assured its Sendai Framework Voluntary Commitments this year. This commitment aims to use drones, geospatial and other frontier technologies for enhancing disaster risk assessments and development planning, thus contributing to sustainability.
IHRR commits to pave the way for building resilience in Nepal by understanding and assessing risk with the help of frontier technology. Drones and geospatial technologies will be used to enhance disaster risk assessments and development planning at Hetauda Sub-Metropolitan City, capital of Bagmati Province in collaboration with Hetauda Submetopolitan City, DRONEPAL, NAXA P. Ltd., and Nepal Flying Labs. The duration of this project is from May 2020 to Dec 2020. The aim of this project is to support and strengthen the institutional capacities of the government and organization to respond with potential hazards.
This commitment will produce 20 community champions (youth and young professionals familiarized with frontier technologies in disaster risk reduction), knowledge transfer to the Sub-Metropolitan City Office, and production of risk maps.
